Back in August of 2012, I got the great opportunity to become an advisor for my college sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. From August 2012 until December 2012, I served as the Standards Advisor, and then took over as Chapter Advisor in January 2013, a position which ended in December of 2013. It was a great and challenging experience. I met some wonderful girls and hopefully made a difference in some of their lives in some way. We participated in lots of different activities and service projects, and had many fun events like Mother/Daughter Teas and socials. One of my favorite events was formal that took place at the Hyatt in Savannah! It was fun night!
Another neat thing that I got to do as Chapter Advisor is go to AOII International Convention in Chicago for a week during June of last year. It was such a great experience, and I'm so glad I got to go and participate! It really brought me back to the reason I joined AOII in the first place as a college freshman. Plus...I got to go see Chicago!!!
During the fall of 2013, Alpha Lambda celebrated it's 25th year! We had a celebration at my parent's house, Quinney Oaks Plantation! It was a night filled with great food and fun! We even had Karen Galehan, one of the International Vice President's attend and be our guest speaker! What a treat!
I have to say AOII is near and dear to my heart for many reasons. I have met such great friends and people throughout my journey as both an collegiate member and as an advisor. One of the most important reasons is that being an advisor for AOII brought me to meet Alicia Reigel. She was a Graduate Assistant in the Biology Department at Georgia Southern who was an AOII at the University of Wisconsin. I was told she was interested in getting involved as an advisor, and the rest is history! She has come to be one of my best friends, and I am very thankful for her and the relationship that we have formed both as sisters and as friends!
At the Greek Awards banquet last November, I received the honor of being named Chapter Advisor of the year for all Greek organizations. I was truly honored.
